Gospel Luke 11:14–23 (24–26) Jesus, the Conqueror of Evil

Jesus cast out a demon from a mute man. When the demon had gone out, the mute man spoke, and everyone was amazed. But some said, “He casts out demons by Beelzebul, the ruler of the devil.” Others, testing him, sought from him a sign from heaven.

But Jesus knew what they were thinking and said:

“Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to ruin, and a house falls to the ground. If Satan is divided against himself, how can his kingdom stand? You say that I drive out demons by Beelzebul. But if I drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your people drive them out? You will have judges among yourselves. But if I drive out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.

When a strong man guards his castle with his weapons in his hand, his possessions are safe. But when a stronger man attacks him and overcomes him, he takes from him all his weapons and equipment in which he trusted and divides the spoils. Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me “When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, it passes through dry places, seeking rest, but does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ Then it comes and finds its house swept and put in order, and brings with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they enter and dwell there. So the last state of that man is worse than the first.” (Luke 11:14–23 (24–26) First Edition)

Demons in History

Demons and unclean spirits are often mentioned in the Bible. This topic raises questions: Do demons still exist, and how do these evil forces manifest themselves in the world today? In this blog post, we will explore these questions and examine how goodness and evil are still present in our lives.

Demons, or demons, have been a part of humanity’s belief systems and cultural narratives throughout history. In the Bible, demons are often depicted as individuals who influence people’s lives. For example, Jesus cast out demons from several people, such as in the Gospel of Mark, where he frees a man from the Gerasenes. The personification of evil has divided human understanding for millennia. Beelzebub, a less common name for the demon, refers to a Canaanite idol and has since been associated with evil as the prince of spirit power. Such accounts raise an important question: How do demons or evil forces manifest themselves to us today in the age of science and rationalism?

The Power of Evil in the Modern World

One of the modern "demon" is computer viruses and cybercrime, which harm people without direct financial gain. For example, in 2021, cybercrime caused more than $6 trillion in damage worldwide. The evildoers who create such viruses only enjoy the destruction and chaos they cause.

These viruses can cause serious problems for both individuals and businesses. Well-managed cybersecurity is now more important than ever. We can ask: What kind of evil forces does this again demonstrate, and how can we protect ourselves from them?

Different Forms of Evil

While computer viruses are one example, there are other dark phenomena, such as murder and terrorism. In 2022, more than 40,000 murders were reported worldwide, raising questions about the motives behind the acts. Psychological or social reasons can often explain these acts, but it is time to ask: could there be a supernatural force at work here too? Different cultures have stories that try to explain such evil. When trying to understand these phenomena, it is important to remember that not all things that we cannot fully explain are purely psychological. They can be manifestations of evil.

Evil and Good: A Struggle in Constant Change

The power of evil is strong and can insidiously drag us down with it. In our daily lives, we often encounter temptations and deceptions that lead us astray. Evil has the ability to disguise itself in many forms, and it can strike when we least expect it.

Jesus said, “He who is not with me is against me.” This is a sobering reminder of the choices we make every day. For example, studies show that making good choices, such as being helpful or supporting others, can increase personal well-being by up to 30 percent.

Small Temptations of Evil

In our lives, we often encounter small evil influences that can have a profound impact. These can be small things, such as lying or hurting others. We often think that these are just “small” things. However, repeated over and over again can lead to more serious problems. For example, in social relationships, mild manifestations such as jealousy or distrust are signs of the influence of evil. Evil has the ability to divide people, create conflict, and breed discord. This is why it is important to recognize and combat the first signs of the poisons of evil.

Fear and Awareness of the Existence of Evil

Understanding the existence of evil can cause fear. However, this fear can lead us to better knowledge and preparation. It is important to recognize the small manifestations of evil and to fight them in time. This way, we can ensure that we do not fall victim to its influences. Fear of evil can also inspire us to seek the forces of goodness. Good always exists, and we can choose it. Good deeds, compassion, and friendship are needed to overcome evil.

The Battle Between Good and Evil

Do demons still exist? Although we do not see them as angelic beings, it is clear that evil manifests in many ways, such as violence, lies, and fear. When we unite, we can fight these phenomena and choose good things. We have a choice. When we are aware of the subtle forms of evil, we can better protect ourselves and our community. We choose paths that lead to the light, and we strengthen our connection to each other. Together we can overcome the effects of evil and make the world a better place.
