Gospel Luke 24:1–12 Christ is Risen

On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women went to the tomb, taking the spices they had bought. They found the stone rolled away from the entrance to the tomb, and when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, suddenly two men in dazzling clothes stood before them. The women were frightened and bowed their heads to the ground. But the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen from the dead. Remember how he told you while he was still in Galilee: ‘This is how it must happen: the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and on the third day he will rise from the dead.’” Then they remembered what Jesus had said.

When the women returned from the tomb, they told the eleven disciples and all the others. These women were Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and there were others with them. They told everything to the apostles, but they thought that the women were talking about themselves and did not believe them. However, Peter ran to the tomb. When he looked in, he saw only the linen cloths, and he went away, wondering in his heart what had happened. (Luke 24:1–12 First Edition)

In another significant appearance, Jesus entered through a locked door into an upper room. This event not only brought joy to the disciples, but it strengthened their faith. Thomas in particular, who was not there at the beginning, was given a unique opportunity to examine Jesus’ wounds, which led him to recognize that Jesus was truly alive.

According to Paul, Jesus appeared to over five hundred people at the same time (1 Cor. 15:6). This group was so convinced of Jesus’ resurrection that many of them were willing to suffer persecution. Like Paul, every believer should share his or her faith boldly.

The Power of Faith for Believers
